Windows XP/2000 Japanese Input Setup

Windows XP (and 2000) has the ability to allow Japanese input after enabling a few features. Here's how...

First head to start->settings->Control Panel.
Select 'Regional and Language Options'.

Next, click on the 'Languages' tab, and select 'Details'.

Click 'Add', and in the 'Input Language' drop down box you will see a wide variety of languages to choose from.
Select Slovenian and press 'OK'. It might ask you for your OS CD at this point.

Just kidding. Select Japanese...

After you have properly selected Japanese, your 'Installed Services' should look something like this.

Now you should be ready to input Japanese, this is exactly how Japanese is inputed on Japanese computers. This is the 'real deal'. You should now see the multi-language dialog box on your desktop.

At first your language bar will look like this. The 'EN' shows that you are now in English input mode.

To switch modes, click on the blue 'EN', and change to 'JP', which is Japanese mode.

Once you switch to Japanese mode, you can click the 'nyuuryoku mode' (input mode) button to choose between 'Hiragana' input, 'Katakana' input, or just plain old English input.

Once you are inputing in Hiragana, you can hit the space bar after typing a word to jump to a kanji selection screen.

Hopefully that should be enough to get you started. If you have questions or comments, send some email to harveybeasley@linuxmail.org and we'll get back to you asap!
