More Music! - Puffy

One of the ways I worked on my Japanese listening comprehension and vocabulary in high school and college while in the States was by listening to Japanese music. Here are some of my favorites that can be easily had in the US.

Pizzicato Five

Happy Tunes, Clear Lyrics...

My personal favorite is Pizzicato 5 - The Sound of Music, Made in USA at a close second!
Pizzicato Five - The Fifth Release from Pizzicato Five
Pizzicato Five - Happy End of You
Pizzicato Five - RIP
Pizzicato Five - Remix 2000
Pizzicato Five - Combinaison Spaciale [EP]

Pizzicato 5 is an upbeat Japanese band, with a cult-like following in various parts of the world. Most Japanese people have heard of P5, but the band is by no means mainstream. The DJ in the band, Yasuharu Konishi, however, was god-like in his prime, and he still does sets in clubs in Tokyo on a regular basis. Nomiya Maki, the lead singer, has a beautiful voice, and pronounces her lyrics clearly.

P5's lyrics are usually about extremely ordinary situations and ideas. Like singing about life in Tokyo at night, and sometimes they even have interviews with Maki happen in the middle of their tracks. Kinda weird, but great for studying! Pizzicato 5 songs usually have hooks that are repeated often, and actually include useable Japanese grammar.

Also, as an added bonus the P5 CD's usually come with inserts like posters or memberships cards... (I kid you not) that makes owning the album a little bit more fun.
