There are various words and phrases that you will encounter while looking for
housing in Japan. Here are some of the important ones, and what they mean.
bukken-- room
chiiki--- area, region,
fudousanya--- real estate agent.
ensen---- train or subway line
madori--- plan of the house
toho--- on foot (pedestrian)
reikin--- key money, basically a thank you gift.
shinchiku---- new room/house
kousou--- high apartment or mansion building usually more than 10 stroies.
teisou--- low apartment or mansion building usually less than 3 stories.
mansion--- type of apartment in Japan, not a large house.
shikikin--- security deposit
tetsukekin--- advance money on agreement (earnest money)
chukai seenryo--- Max one month rent, a fee to fudousan
yachin--- monthly rent
washitsu--- Japanese style room, maybe with tatami, and shoji, and oshiire
tatami--- Japanese straw mats
shoji--- paper screens
oshiire--- sliding door cupboard type things
