Recommended hotels in Tokyo:
Sunroute Plaza hotel has a very convenient location. It’s just a short 5 minute walk from Shinjuku station, the most trafficked station in Tokyo. If you’re staying in Shinjuku you can easily jump on the Yamanoto Line (the green loop line) to hit Shibuya, Harajuku, Akihabara, or any of the other major shopping and tourist destinations in Tokyo.
The rooms in Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku aren’t the largest, but that’s a Japanese business hotel for you. If you’re staying in Shinjuku I’m sure you won’t be spending much time in the hotel room anyway. Shinjuku is packed with entertainment, morning and night, so it’s easy to stay out late and leave first thing in the morning to hit the town. Since the hotel is located so close to the station you won’t need to worry about getting lost in the middle of the night if you’re coming back “home” on the last train from a night on the town.

Hotel Villa Fontaine Shiodome:
This place is pretty fancy, but very nice. The sort of place you'd put your parents up at if they were planning to visit you in Japan, or the kind of place you'd stay at if you wanted to have a ritzy Japan experience on a budget. I mean... it's located in Ginza. Ginza the fancy shopping and dining area of Tokyo so you'll be right in the heart of all the glamour and glitz.

This hotel is just a quick 1 minute walk from Tokyo station (yes, literally 1 minute). The area around Tokyo station itself is extremely boring, not much but office buildings… but there is one important thing there… the shinkansen (bullet train). So, if you’re planning to use Tokyo as a jump off point to use the bullet train to go other places, you might consider staying at Ryumeikan. Having said all that, Tokyo station isn’t extremely inconvienet, it is located on Yamanoto line (the green loop line) so you can still get to most places of interest in Tokyo without changing trains.
Check out Hotel Ryumeikan if proximity to the bullet train is a priority for you!
