Dani

When living in Japan, apparently the high humidity, and warming comfort of the inside of tatami mats, can bring a small, tick-like bug known as ‘dani’ into your living area. Dani bite, and leave mosquito like bumps on their victims.

Dani are referred to in a Japanese English dictionary as ticks, or dust mites. They have also been referred to as ‘tatami bugs’. Dani tend to appear when it is humid and damp, they also tend to like the insides of tatami mats it seems. They are small and cannot be seen with the naked eye.

Apparently, Dani usually bite twice, so if you have two bumps on your skin, that look like mosquito bites, but suck, then they might be Dani.

In order to get Dani out of your life, clean up as normal, and also, be sure to hang your futon, or other blanket type things that you use out in the sun on a hot day. I also heard on TV that if you lay your futon outside on a car, it will heat up faster, and get hotter as well. Go for it!

I have also heard that Dani can give you asthma. I’m not sure if it’s true, but hey, I heard it from a Japanese person.
