Shibuya Shot

Just a shot I took in Shibuya. I kinda like it. Just to point out some cultural tidbits. In the upper left you can see an advertisement for “Winter Song” or , Fuyu no Sonata. In the upper right is an advertisement for Docomo, the phone company. The orange sign is a sign for Yoshinoya, [...]

Ramen in Jyuugaoka
Posted by harvey in Food, Tokyo on 07. Jun, 2008 | 4 Comments
I stumbled upon this yummy Ramen shop in Jyuugaoka while wandering with a friend in Tokyo before I left. Just look at this. The peppered stuff in the upper left above the pork is tuna (maguro) – and boy was it good. This is some high-quality, high-cost ramen. I think it was something like 900 [...]

I left Japan from Tokyo, so decided to take a trip to get out of the city before flying back to the United States. I went to Kawagoe in Saitama prefecture. Kawagoe is only about a 40 minute train ride from Ikebukuro on the Seibu-Tojo Line, so it is possible to leave in the morning [...]

Men at work in Shibuya on the Tokyu Department Store in front of the Hachiko area. It was cool seeing them unroll this advertisement. I almost saluted. Gucci in the house! For the record, from this distance I can’t be sure that the workers are actually men – but hey. – Harvey

Megacity. Sounds like terminology out of an Anime, but it’s the real deal. A megacity [wiki] is a city with more than 10 million people. Tokyo is currently the largest megacity in the world, with a population of almost 36 million. This figure includes some of the surrounding areas, including Yokohama, Kawasaki, Chiba, and others. A Visit to Tokyo Tower
Posted by harvey in Tokyo, Travel on 07. Nov, 2007 | 13 Comments
Back in March I climbed the stairs to the top of Tokyo Tower and am finally getting around to posting about it. I’m a little behind. Here is a shot of the Tower in all it’s majesty. It’s a bit taller than the Eiffel Tower in Paris, and the tallest man-made structure in Japan. On [...]
Tokyo, world’s 4th most livable city
Posted by harvey in Tokyo on 04. Nov, 2007 | 13 Comments
I came across this ranking of the “The world’s top 10 most liveable cities” on IHT today. Number one is Munich. I laughed at the thought that Tokyo, or any other Japanese city might possibly make the list. Then to my surprise… #4 TOKYO. Integrated transport, breathtaking technology, great service and the best bars make [...]
