I do think you can make it to the peak and back in a one day hike, be sure to get started early in the morning though. I think we left our little cabin thing at like 6 or 7am, and reached the peak at lunch time. Then we were back down by 3pm I believe... but check elsewhere for specifics!

Yakushima is fabulous!

Hey!
We will go to Yakushima in two weeks and stay there for 3 nights.
We don't have any camping equipment...do you think you can make it to the peak in a one-day hike?

I'm so excited to go there...spent three months in Tokyo! It's time for some nature!

Thank you for sharing this experience. Now I really want to go there myself! :)
You've made some great pictures, it really feels like the woods in Mononoke Hime. Amazing!

Harvey, quick note to say I couldn't agree more. My trip to Yakushima is still probably my favorite trip in Japan. From Osaka or Tokyo, I recommend taking the overnight ferry to Kagoshima and staying a night in Ibusuki at Kagoshima at a hotel next to Kagoshima bay, before going to Yakushima.
