Gamer Spots in Japan

Just a quick link, Kotaku has a piece on Ten-plus Spots Gamers Should Visit in Japan. I’ve only been to maybe half of these places… Just the usual Akihabara, Denden Town, stuff like that.

I think it’s no over generalization to say that many students of the Japanese language also happen to play video games more than the average joe… If you don’t fit that stereotype, let me know. I’m curious.

I’m not going to lie, when I was in junior high school I wanted to learn Japanese so that I could one day make video games in Japan (and be a ninja of course). It didn’t quite turn out that way… But I’m not complaining.

The 8-bit Cafe in Shinjuku seems really interesting… Anyone been there? Or, anyone in Tokyo now who is willing to go check it out? Have fun!

I fall into the camp of students of Japanese language who don’t play video games. Nothing against them, I just don’t seem to have the time; my interests are more in the traditional arts of Japan, like tea ceremony, which I’ve been studying for going on five years. I’ve been to Shinjuku, but Kyoto’s more my style. (I’m 30 years old, btw, a Linux geek and a spacecraft flight controller, so I’m no technophobe.)

There is also a game bar in Osaka, and we held party at there. Do you remember?

By the way, recently Japanese kids play video game less than old boys like us… Because of why, they have mobilephone one by one and waste their time to SMS.
However I was told from parents not to play videogame more over One hour, I might tell my daughter to play videogame. :-D

Kikuchi! ひさしぶり〜 Oh yeah I remember that game bar in Osaka! They had a Wii! Good times.

Too bad kids these days are playing games less and SMSing more… they don’t know what they’re missing!

I’m another one that didn’t fall in the gaming or more recently manga/anime category. I was more interested in the history, particularly post WWII. However I think the interest began with a few old travel guides and some books about traditional arts I found in my elementary school library. It wasn’t until more recently that anime and manga really exploded in popularity in Mexico that Japanese became a lot more popular to learn. As for gaming, I was just never that good at it.

I believe it is the younger generations That enjoy games/anime/manga and tend to embrace the technological side of Japan more so than the Traditions and what-not i am a 17 Year-old Australian girl, who is Always on the phone but i also love Anime Purikura Games-be it PC XBOX PS3 WII i have them all, so i do think that the younger generations that learn Japanese Love the whole “Akihabara” thing ^^
