Yuko no Monogatari – Free Audio and Text

Just got word from The Japan Shop that a story called “Yuki no Monogatari” 「ゆきの物語」is available online for free at TheJapanesePage.com.

It’s a story, accompanied by a video that displays the Japanese and English translation at the same time. Good for studying if you’re an intermediate level Japanese learner.

The first chapter is embedded here. Follow this link for the rest of Yuki no Monogatari.

You know what’s weird? This is a story written by a guy named Richard VanHouten. Writing stories in Japanese! That’s hot.

Hi Harvey! Thanks for the plug. I am sure Rich will be thrilled he is getting media attention. :)

Rich has 83 chapters on his website. We are adding them to TJP with audio when we have time.

The link you gave is just to what’s been recorded by Clay’s wife (18 chapters so far); to find what’s been written, look here – as Clay said, 83 chapters so far, and I’m working on chapter 84.

I’ve been working on this for a couple of years now, encouraged by the interest of Clay (who thinks it’s a great learning tool for intermediate learners) and others. Right now I’m working with a great bunch in the lang-8 community to improve the naturalness of the chapters that haven’t been recorded yet before sending them off to Clay.

Thanks for filling that in Richard! Great work on that, that’s -quite- the project.

Just thought I’d let you know that I finished writing ゆきの物語, ending up with 93 chapters. Of course, fool that I am, I’ve started writing a sequel.
