Bigger. Badder. Spicier.

Seriously, compare it to the wasabi of a previous week!
To be continued…

Dumb question….so how do you eat it and how do you know when it ready to be eaten? Do ou have to dry it first?

When the wasabi gets bigger, which this one won’t because it’s in such a small pot, you actually grind the fat stem of the wasabi plant to get the mushy wasabi goop that we enjoy on sushi.
See the fat end in this image?
http://www.wasabi.co.nz/images/wasabi%20roots%202.jpg
that’s what gets ground.
Actually I’m not sure if that’s the stem or the root. It might be the root actually.

If I were to grind the root of my plant though… It would be dead. So I’ll just nibble leaves. Hah. Normally the leaves are not used in cooking!

You need to stick a webcam in front of it, so we can watch it grow in real time.

Joe – great idea on the webcam! Because I thoroughly enjoy activities like watching paint dry. I’m laughing!

do you have to do anything special to it before eating it?

Nope, just grind and use! In good sushi shops you can see them preparing it sometimes.
Hey guys, I installed a “subscribe to comments” thing a while ago that supposedly allows you to sign up for email notifications when people reply to posts.
Is this working for anyone!? Feedback appreciated.

I’m serious Harvey. There wasa webcast dedicated to watching cheese age 24/7 that had 1.7 million viewers
http://cheddarvision.tv/
So I really think there is a market demand for watching your wasabi plant grow.

If someone gives me enough money to buy a webcam… I’ll do it!
But do you guys realyy wanna see wasabi grow? I should carry it around town for a day. That would be hilarious.

My step-daughter left me turtles the last time she visited in Japan and they actually came with me on the bullet train because I had no-one to feed them…I sure got some funny looks!!! When we left Japan I didn’t know what to do with them and we went to a local park where they had turtles in a pond and set them free to be with their own. I didn’t think that they would survive and cried like a baby…
