女心と秋の空

[Himeji Castle, taken last year November. ]
Speaking of autumn… Here is a nice Japanese phrase I just learned.
「女心と秋の空」- onnna gokoro to aki no sora
This means that a woman’s heart (feelings towards a man) is like the autumn sky (easily changing).
It is said that in Japan the weather in autumn is especial volatile. It could rain any day, and the weather forecasts are even less dependable than usual. It is also said that a woman’s feelings toward a man change equally as randomly. “I love you. You suck. I love you. You suck. Why do you love me?”
Now, before people jump on me here, my dictionary says that originally, the phrase was this…
「男心と秋の空」otoko gokoro to aki no sora
男 means man. (You’ve seen that Kanji before!)
Why did the target of the phrase switch from men to women? No idea.
