Takoyaki and Okonomiyaki can constitute a meal in Osaka.

To people in the Tokyo area, this would be unbelievable. To people in the Osaka area, well… It’s not an everyday occurrence for sure, but few would deny that it happens from time to time.
A more common culinary difference between Tokyo and Osaka that involves Okonomiyaki is that in Osaka, Okonomiyaki can become a Teishoku 定食. Becoming a teishoku means that the meal will have rice, miso soup, some tea, and the main dish, Okonomiyaki. It will actually be served in restaurants this way. In the Kanto area, Okonomiyaki will rarely be eaten with rice.
For that matter, in Osaka you can also find Udon Teishoku that has rice with it as well. Noodles and rice don’t go together in Kanto.
Those Kanto people… They don’t know what they’re missing.
