I lost a six month teiki with nearly five months time left on it once. Was worth over 50,000 yen. A day after I lost it, a JR official called me to tell me someone had found it and turned it in. Now I know why they make you enter your phone number when you create it...

Your cynicism disappoints me Harvey. I found a 500 yen coin once, and promptly turned it in to the nearest koban. Nobody ever came to claim it, so 2 1/2 months later I took my copy of the report and went to the police station and got the money legit.

Not only that, it was the exact same 500 yen coin that I turned in! Or at least, a similar looking coin of the same year of mintage.

The horror of it all! The money-giver strikes again!

You've got to love the people who turn the cash into the police. It really makes you confident that if you lost your camera on the yamanote train, you'd actually get it back.
