Heroes

June 1, 2007 on 10:02 am | In About | | Email This Post

I just watched the entire first season of Heroes in 3 days.

Good stuff.

Now I can return to my regular life.

By the way, Hiro’s friend, Ando, is actually played by a Korean guy, and his Japanese has a pretty thick accent.

On another note, I would love to have a jacket like Hiro that says 「場違い」on it.

How is the series in terms of the actual writing behind it? I am a huge LOST fan, and the writers are excellent, perhaps the industry’s best. Despite whether or not you like the show, you have to admit that the writing is good.

Heroes, at first, just looked like an XMen clone. I haven’t really heard much about it.

Heroes was AWESOME! (except the finale was a bit of a let down - I imagine they had a great ending but had to change it so that everyone could continue next season).

I didn’t realise that the actor who played Ando was a Korean guy, that’s interesting to know.

Watching the show is an excellent way for me to practise my Japanese as well. Good show, highly recommended.

    Right on goddesscarlie!

Hey one more thing, I swear those sense in Japan, are NOT filmed in Japan.

The India scenes looked extremely convincing though. I think they really were shot there.

I’m sure I could just Google and verify this but… does anyone know?

I saw the first episode in which there were scenes from Madras. Although it was pretty convincing, i certainly don’t think it was filmed on location. Some of the stuff looked straight out of the sets. Wow.scenes from JP were not JP is it? the stations looked pretty authentic though!

I keep missing the show when it’s on, but from what little I caught of a scene on the subway, the train car looked like it was straight out of the LA subway system, albeit with some signage and a bunch of Asian people to establish the setting. I suppose they might use a few exterior shots from Japan, I haven’t seen any to be able to judge, but to keep their budget within reason I’m sure they do as much as possible in the US. Of course, that’s no different than TV or film production in most studios around the world. Staying close to the main set tends to be a much higher priority than doing location shots.

love Heroes! …was afraid to read all the comments above because of possible spoilers - they’re playing it in NZ now - 2 more episodes to go in the season.

Hi Harvey. I am watching Heroes now and it is great. I would be going through the episodes quicker but I can’t watch them before going to bed because I get too pumped up to sleep.

OK the only japanese person to make an appearance on the show was george takei. The guy who plays hero sounds like the boy from indy jones. Why couldnt they hire real japanese people?? the show is awesome but listening to them speak japanese is painful.

    Hey, Hiro’s Japanese is perfect.

He still has an accent, though I agree that the words are correct from all I can tell. I kept justifying that he was transfered from another asian country to his job…until I found out about his family. At least his sister has a more obvious Japanese accent.

Could have done a bit better in making those scenes look like they were really in Japan, though (perhaps I only notice because I live in said country).

After all that stuff said, I totally kept watching the show for Hiro’s storyline. The fact that he kept speaking only Japanese when he was around his friend was so nice, ’cause it’s not like I only speak in Japanese to my other English-speaking friends just because I’m in Japan. It was a nice little bit of “real” that shows and movies like to ignore.

    Go Heroes!
