It's interesting to note that, if a holiday falls on a Sunday, such as this year's Showa Day, the following day (Monday) becomes a day off in its place. But there's no such luck if a holiday falls on Saturday, such as this year's Children's Day.

Some small cheap companies actually require employees to come into work on a Saturday if a national holiday comes during the week. In this case, I suppose these poor employees would probably be relieved with a Saturday holiday not breaking their weekends up.

That's right! I forgot to mention that. I think it's so funny how they decided to "shuffle" Green day to a new day to make room for Showa day.

It's not really "one more day", because the number of holidays comprising Golden Week (4) has not changed. In the past "Midori no hi" was on April 29th, and the day between May 3rd and May 5th was just a "between day" added to pad out the holiday period.

As of this year, April 29th becomes Showa Day, and the "between day" of May 4th becomes the new Green Day.
