Ideas Please! Tokyo Visit
March 1, 2007 on 8:14 am | In About | | Email This PostHey everyone,
I’m going into Tokyo on Sunday for the purpose of sight-seeing for the first time in a long time. A friend of mine who is here studying in Yokohama hasn’t had much time to enjoy Tokyo, so we decided to make a day of it.
Anyone have any recommendations on places to go?
I would like to hit some places that I haven’t been myself, in addition to the usual Shibuya, Harajuku, Asakusa routine. I actually have never been to Yasukuni Shrine, so I think I’ll try to squeeze that in as well.
Recommendations on interesting and rare places in Tokyo appreciated!
Of course, I’ll bring my camera so I can post evidence after I get back!
- Harvey

Hey doc strange! I have been to Kamakura actually, and in fact so has the friend I’m planning to take around. I agree though! Kamakura is not to be missed for someone in the Tokyo area!
Anyone have others?

Harvey! You might want to check out Roppongi. Haven’t been there for two years but I know a lot has happened since then, too. Otherwise, have you thought about stopping at Ueno?

Hey Homes, I plan to swing by Roppongi Hills, that place is pretty cool.
Haven’t thought about shopping at Ueno though! Will keep it in mind

Harvey, I recommend some places where I really like!
1. Yanaka Area
“Yanaka Area” is in Taitoku and located near Nippori Station.
When I was in university, I visited this area many times to research for my report.
Please read this article !

2. Nihon Mingei Kan

Actually, I never been to this place, but I really wanna go!
3. Ebisu, Daikanayama, Jiyuugaoka, Omotesandou
These places are small but very stylish.
I love to go to these places to have a coffee with my friends.

I agree with asako - daikanyama has a really nice feel - small town like some where in east london. trendy with nice shops and cafes. definitely nicer than near by shibuya. I’ve only been for work but I always grab a wee seat and chill out for a while. enjoy wherever you go.

Actually Daikanyama is my new favorite place in Tokyo. It’s really, really cool. Many small shops, incredible architecture, very interesting place to explore. Don’t miss the cafes.

hey i’m surprised no one mentioned shimokitazawa, I love that place!

Hey harvey! Hope this isn’t too late, but there are rows of tightly squeezed yakitori / izakayas near Shinjuku station. I think it was Kita guchi? Where there you walk through a tunnel nearby and, left of Alta i think. Anyway, it’s really small, really crowded and lots of eating / drinking in a very Tokyo atmosphere.
Love to go there now.

Ayumi! Yeah that’s Yakitori Yokocho! (焼き鳥横町)
I almost forgot about that place it’s been so long. Yeah that would be a great place for dinner! Can really enjoy the big city down and dirty Tokyo feel huh. I’ll put that on the consideration list as well!

It is going to be nice weather Sunday. Why not go to yoyogi koen or Shinjuku gyoen? Another nice spot is Hamarikyu garden.
