Hope this isn't too late, but there are rows of tightly squeezed yakitori / izakayas near Shinjuku station. I think it was Kita guchi? Where there you walk through a tunnel nearby and, left of Alta i think. Anyway, it's really small, really crowded and lots of eating / drinking in a very Tokyo atmosphere. Love to go there now.
