Kobe Chinatown - Chinese Burger

Back to Kobe Chinatown!

Though the Chinatown in Yokohama is much larger than Kobe’s Chinatown, Kobe has it’s own nice neat feel to it.

Of course, the reason anyone goes to Chinatown in Japan is to eat…

Below is what the Japanese call a “Chinese Burger”… What is the Chinese name for this? Does anyone know? I think it might be a “Baozi” but I’m not sure.

The shop below has great Chinese Burgers. If you’re in Kobe Chinatown try to hunt this place down! You won’t be disappointed.

it’s called “gua bao” — bao zi is a bit different. my grandma actually makes really good gua bao (which is really just the bready part of it), and we always end up stuffing random things into it and eating it hehehe =P

although… i’m not sure i’d go so far as to call it the “chinese burger”?

well it’s made out of flour or something (i don’t remember), but instead of baking it like western bread, it’s steamed. so you don’t have the golden brown look of baked-ness.

the golden brown look of baked-ness is an awesome phrase. But yeah, that’s why.

I think it’s made basically the same way as the 551 nikuman bread.

It’s all white and puffy and good-ness.
