Yokohama Beer

Every area of Japan has their famous food. Hida Takayama has their beef, Tokyo has their Monjyayaki, Osaka has their Takoyaki, Hokkaido has really gross meat flavored caramels, and of course really yummy Genghis’s Khan.

But other than a really cool China Town, what does Yokohama have?

Beer!

A regular beer will cost you about 205 yen. Approximately 2 USD.

However the Yokohama stuff will cost ya 472! For 20ml less! More than double!

I guess it’s quality over quantity huh. Give it a try next time you’ve got some extra cash burning a hole in your wallet.

I’m 苦学生 now so I can’t go near the stuff.

You can even take a tour of a brewery in Yokohama and get some free beer at the end!

    I’m sure Yokohama has good Chinese food.

    When I was homestaying in Yatsushiro, in Kumamoto Prefecture, on Kyushu–almost the opposite of Hokkaido–my host mother gave me this amazingly delicious yogurt and said it was Hokkaido yogurt. So I guess Hokkaido is also known for yogurt? Or at least in Yatsushiro it is…

    Kamakura has its own beer too, and it costs about as much.

    Also, Yokohama has GREAT Chinese food. I was just there last night. Unfortunately, I was with Japanese people who like the more….interesting dishes. First up was spicy cow stomachs (all 4), and then on to the transparent “1000 year eggs”.

    Kobe has a cool Chinatown as well!

    I am really close to Chinatown now (my school) so I go there, faiiirly often. When the student sized wallet allows anyway.

    I think Hokkaido is known for other things than gross caramels. Besides the genghis khan thing, their big deal is MILK and other dairy products. I love their milky soft ice cream. SO good.

    Hey mdchachi! Actually Hokkaido is also famous for a cracker dessert with white frosting inside. I think it is called “White Heart”? Or “Shirayuki”? Or White Snow”? Or something like that.

    They also have some delicious chocolate covered strawberries.

    I went to a Chinese restaurant with a Japanese host once and it was an eye opener.

    I ate everything that arrived. The only thing I really couldn’t handle was those black sulpherous eggs… nasty! I really don’t want to repeat them again (or is it have them repeat again?)

    Yeah I’ve had those. They are good. And the nama chocolates. Those are yummy. I’d never even heard of “raw chocolate” before I went to Japan. I guess I was deprived.
    You don’t have to fly to Hokkaido. Just order online.
