Japanese Emoticons

Posted on 14. Jan, 2007 @ 2:15 pm by harvey in Culture

Here are some cute “Japanese” Emoticons. Also known as “kaomoji” 「顔文字」in Japanese.

I’m sure they use similar, if not the same emoticons all over Asia. I often get these emoticons sent to me via phone email. Phones even have shortcut keys you can use to pull them up in a second.

The scary thing is, there are tons more of these… Tons.

After you’ve memorized all the Kanji, you can work on these!

Wow. I’ve never seen most of those before. I did see a few in Densha Otoko, and my AMRN friends and I have used stuff like ^_^, ^_^;, -_-, ^_~, etc. for years, but those are really elaborate!

kawaii! a bunch of japanese prep school girls came to our class and taught us some of these once. i’d use these more, but i really hate texting. asia doesn’t seem to be short on large lists of things that are extremely similliar and must be memorized. kanji, emoticons, pokémon, chinese dynasties etc. etc.

It is interesting if I can memorise all these and put into good use. Kind of know the first few but don’t know the rest of their meaning.
