Black People ToothPaste

This “Black People Toothpaste” commercial is actually from Thailand, however the same brand of toothpaste is sold in Taiwan, and I assume other places in Asia.

You gotta watch this. You won’t regret it.

There is this stereotype in China, Taiwan, Thailand, and I have ever heard it in Japan, that some how black people’s teeth are whiter than those of Asians or Caucasians. Of course, they may appear to be whiter because they stand out in contrast to our dark skin… Of course… But can you believe that this is

Also you’ll notice in the commercial that we’re also pretty good at quickly scaling poles of tremendous height.

This is quite the find isn’t it?

Remember this ad is from Thailand, but the brand is popular in other parts of Asia as well. My friend is in Taiwan right now and is gonna bring some back for me!

i think it’s funny that you went from “black people” to “asians” and then to “caucasians”- instead of african, asian, and european; black, yellow, and white; or whatever, whatever, and caucasian.

We can climb poles? I thought we were just good at running fast and quickly scaling fences to evade the police or angry homeowners that we just robbed… :p

    That was sad and interesting.

I guess scaling fences is similar to climbing poles.

You know, I’m surprised the actor in the commercial agreed to go along with that… I wouldn’t have done it.

qwerty- It’s hard in today’s world to find a way of saying things that doesn’t offend anybody :D As a linguaphile, I could claim to be offended by modern usage of the word “Caucasian”, which actually describes a specific group of people, not just all white people.

But I figure that as long as no harm was intended, it doesn’t matter what anybody calls anybody else. If we spend all our time trying to be PC, we won’t have any time left to actually say anything important.

    That was incredibly strange.

The poor guy, just trying to help!
As usual a fascinating link thanks.

Funny that they still market it as the Black People Toothpaste in Thailand. In Hong Kong at least, the name was changed to ‘Darlie’ for quite some time. I’m not sure but it might be originally call ‘darkie’ since the two words rhymes…

hm…now thinking about it… that was kind of mean.

p.s. just did a search on wiki, apparently it is (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darlie)
