Kikuna Matsuri

October 8, 2006 on 10:25 am | In Culture | | Email This Post

I happened upon a small scale matsuri foor the first time in a long timea while ago.

Recently I have only been attending the larger scale famous festivals, such as Gion Matsuri in Kyoto, Ebisu Matsuri in Osaka, big Awaodori parties, and though it was long ago, Handa Matsuri in Aichi. I was wandering around the Kikuna area recently, and ran into… Kikuna Matsuri.

They had one Omikoshi (portable shrine) out right in front of the train station. They did a few rounds up and down the street, and in another area of the town there was the usual festival activity, with booths selling food and offering games.

Quaint!

I didn’t know that there is such a Matsuri in Kikuna although I lived near there last year.

you will see more different culture from Kansai where you love very much. Find many interesting thing in Kanto!! 関東もいいところだ。

Hey Nori! Yeah I wasn’t expecting any matsuri to be in Kikuna area either. Also, there was a festival in Ookurayama which is another minor train station just one stop away.

    Let’s get 200 yen beers!

    御神輿のことを”portable shrine”というのか。
なるほど。it sounds like keeping it in pockets.
