AU Keitai Emoticon Enhancement
September 13, 2006 on 7:18 pm | In Gadgets | | Email This PostA little late on the news trigger here, but in case you didn’t know… Since Sept 5th, if you use an AU cell phone in Japan, your friends who use other company phones can now view emoticons you send with keitai email.
Until now, the emoticons sent by an AU phone could only be viewed if the recipient also had an AU phone.
Convenient!

AU’s emoticon set is vastly superior to Docomo’s. I sent a mail with a frog emoticon to my gf’s phone, and it came up as [カエル」 on her phone. Also, the smiley faces are far more simple on Docomo. It’s a fantastic new feature, but it was kind of a let down to see it in use.
