Japanese war money

I found this link over on another site that has images of Japaense World War II currency.

Apparently this is the currency that Japan planned to use in all of the territory it gained during the war.

They’ve even got Rupees and Pesos… Were they planning to reach India and other countries that use Peso’s as well?

    the pesos were probablly intended for the Phillipines.

    hmm interesting.

    i know that japan invaded singapore back in the WWII and issued their own currency.

    It’s called banana notes but I have never really seen what it looked like because most of the notes were destroyed.

    NOt many people kept them because each note had very little value even when the Japanese were in power.

    I’m very surprised at your blog!

    I know our previous government / army desired to get more territory that another country already had. And I heard they forced native people to learn Japanese and have Japanese name to adjust to Japanese habits,etc,etc.

    But even Japanese like me didn’t know this fact!!

    no one would happen to know the value of remaining WWII Japanese Imperial currency would they? When my great-grandmother died last year, my family found a couple of notes from the Phillipine Occupation. Not know what they where, my mother sent them to me since I live in Japan. The peso note has an interesting mix of right-to-left kanji, English and katakana.

    It’s current worth is around US$10. Maybe some collector would want it.
