The story is basically a novelization of the Robert Johnson legend, that he learned his blues skills by selling his soul to the devil. It was commonly believed in the deep south that certain spirits existed at crossroads and/or crossed paths.(probably based on West African folklore). Interesting to see it Japanese-ized.
