Mr Donut Choco Fashion

Mr. Donut is everywhere in Japan.

You can get free refills on coffee, and also on cafe au lait when you eat in, and you can also get noodles if you’re hungry for more than a donut. Recently Mr. Donut opened in Taiwan and is a smashing success as well. Apparently people would line up in the morning just to get their own fresh baked sugar ring.

Can someone tell me, in the states and other places, I know we have the “Old Fashioned” flavor donut as pictured below, but do we also have “Choco-Fashion”? Or is this some fun Engrish?

Donuts… Hrmmm…. I miss the Simpsons.

    Why should you have to miss the Simpsons? The first seven seasons are out on DVD and there’s plenty of “other ways” to get the episodes that don’t cost as much…

    At Fosters Family Donuts (where I worked while in high school) that would be a chocolate covered old fashioned (well, the ones in the picture are only half covered). Which is to differentiate it from a chocolate old fashioned that actually uses chocolate in the dough.

    Of course, the ultimate would be a chocolate covered chocolate old fashioned.

    Also, old fashioned donuts are usually glazed as well, unlike the ones in the picture. The glaze is just a covering of liquid sugar that dries to a semi-hard coating. It’s put on right after the donuts come out of the fryer.

    May… Well… Frankly… I’m too cheap to buy the DVD’s. And too lazy to borrow from people…

    Jacke! I have an excuse. I’ve been in Japan so long that I have forgoten “normal Englsh”. 4 years man! 4 years! Check the Archives! It’s been a looong time.

    Thanks for the Krispy Kreme news, Eric. Mr. Donut doesn’t even compare to Krispy Kreme, so I’m excited to see them making their way here.

    But I am curious to see if they change the flavor of the donuts. I think a lot of them would be considered too sweet for Japanese tastes.

    It blew my mind the first time I heard Japanese person tell me “this cake is too sweet.”

    This was before I had travelled at all mind you, but the concept of a dessert, also known as “sweets”, being TOO sweet, escaped me.

    The sweeter the better! Bring on the SATO!

    We used to have Mr. Donut’s EVERYWHERE around Western Massachusetts, but, they’re all gone now. I think that Dunkin’ Donuts must have drove them out of the area….

    There’s also the option of cable television for the Simpsons (as well as a plethora of other U.S. T.V. shows). At about 3600 yen a month, it’s a pretty good deal if you want foreign entertainment.

    Mister Donut did indeed get its start in Boston. Then in the early 80′s International Multifoods, the then owner of Mister Donut decided it wanted out of the retail side of life. It sold the Mister Donut name to Dunkin’ Donuts and at that point all corparte stores changed flags to Dunkin’. Franchise owners had one year to change either to the Dunkin’ Brand, or go independent.

    It was at this time that a group of Mister Donut owners formed a co-op and created Donut Connection. Many former Mister Donut locations are now Donut Connections, some run as locals, and some alas are the wretched Dunkin’s.

    Yeah I loved Mister Donut, as I grew up inside the store my parents owned. Mister Dount had a better product than Dunkin’. My Parents sold out some years back, and our original store (which had the two story Mister Dount pylon sign in front) is still open. It was a Donut Connection for years and now the new owners are converting it to a Daylight Dount shop (They too have a great product line)

    God I miss coming home smelling like a french cruller!

    In Spain there is no Mr.Donuts, but everywhere you could find them, sold under the name of Donut, or others names. Classic one, covered in chocolate, with cream, with cream and chocolate… well, I have to say that sometimes, depending who makes them, are TOO sweet.
